Annotation
My evidence for this focus area involves a number of legislative, administrative and organisational policies that I was required to understand and comply with.
Reflective statement
Throughout my placement, I followed and demonstrated awareness of legal requirements and the key policies of my placement setting, which can be found on this page.
The Northcote Primary School ‘Working With Children (Suitability) Checks – Volunteers & Visitors Policy’ (2018) mandates that any adults undertaking child-related work must have a valid Working With Children Check. This is a legal requirement under the Victorian Government. In compliance with this, I applied for and received my WWCC at the beginning of the year and uploaded this to InPlace.
On 1 October 2021, the Victorian Government announced that COVID-19 vaccination would be mandatory for all workers in education facilities, including pre-service teachers on placement. In compliance with this, I uploaded proof of my COVID-19 vaccination to InPlace.
Hooper (2018) explains that images of children in context are a valuable tool that enable teachers to reflect on children’s learning and their own teaching practice. However, she outlines the importance of storing such images carefully, ensuring they are only used for this purpose, and have been obtained with parental consent. Before commencing any recorded observations of children, I made sure to gain permission from parents, students and my mentor teacher. Throughout my portfolio, I also de-identified all of my evidence by blurring out faces and names in images, and using pseudonyms in my written observations. This was in compliance with requirements from the Swinburne Professional Placement hub.
