Annotation
One literacy lesson plan focused on making text-to-self connections. 3 numeracy lesson plans for a sequence of lessons on arrays and multiplication.
Reflective statement
The Australian Children's Education & Care Quality Authority [ACECQA] (2021) states that working with children is an ongoing cycle of observation and documentation, analysing learning, planning, implementation and reflection. This cycle assists educators in satisfying Quality Area 1 of the National Quality Standards, which requires educators to “take a planned and reflective approach in designing and delivering the program for each child” (ACECQA, 2021, pp. 1).
During my placement, I used the planning cycle to plan and deliver literacy and numeracy lessons.My observations of the focus children evidenced Emily’s creative nature and enjoyment of sharing her interests with the class. Observing the class as a whole allowed me to informally assess their level of reading fluency and engagement with texts selected for shared-reading. When planning my literacy lesson, these analyses and engagement with the Australian Curriculum: English for years 1 and 2 (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, 2018) allowed me to create a task that would be engaging for students by catering to their interests and current level of ability.
